3 Reasons I Hate Back to School {and 5 Reasons Why I Don't}

Back to School season is creeping up on us again. Some of you may have already started your new school year while I go back on August 23rd. I am definitely looking forward to starting a new school year, but I'm not going to lie, I am also dreading some aspects of the back to school season.

There are 3 main reasons why I am dreading starting school again.

I'm not looking forward to packing lunches again. The idea of getting lunchboxes ready every night fills me with a sense of dread more than any other task.

I'm also not looking forward to that exhausted feeling I always have every night during the first week {sometimes month} of school.

More than anything else, I do not want to start getting up early again. I am not a morning person so setting that alarm every morning is probably my least favorite thing about back to school.

Of course, I have my top 5 reasons why I absolutely love going back to school!

I  enjoy getting back in the routine of school. I may not like getting up early or feeling tired, but I do like getting back in the habit of a daily schedule.

 During this time of year, I always feel less guilty about spending money on school supplies. After all, I have to buy everything on the list for my son. Doesn't that mean I have earned a new set of Flair pens?

I have always loved school. Even as a little girl, I looked forward to starting school every year. I have definitely not outgrown that excitement yet. Hopefully I never will.

Every year when school starts again I am filled with a wonderful feeling of newness. No matter what happened last year, you get to start again with a brand new year. It's almost the same feeling I get from buying a brand new planner.

But more than anything, I am always excited to see my students again. Teaching at a small school means that I get to see my students every year even if they aren't in my class. I love getting to hear about their summers and to see the excitement on their faces as they put away their new school supplies and find their desks. It's a joy that simply can't be explained. And I can't wait!

Let me know in the comments why you are looking forward to going back to school. (Or why you aren't.)

  1. This is one of those wonderful REAL blog posts! I could just copy your list..ALMOST anyway. I hate being rushed, and my stomach knots up a little just thinking about the back-to-school schedule. But that sense of newness you talked about always shows up. If it ever doesn't, I'm in trouble! I DO love getting my room ready!

  2. This is IT, girl! The reality of going back to school with early morning, exhausted days and crazy schedules is always hard to get used to at first. But it is sooo much fun to start a new year! That's the best part of being a teacher! ~ Lisa
